The Friends of The High Lakes has actively developed its draft Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) grant application that was submitted to the State of California on March 1, 2010. The public is invited to comment on any changes or improvements to the program, and to assist with the development of the grant application. The application will be available for public review from March 2, 2010 through April 5, 2010. Final applications are due to the State of California on May 3, 2010.. To review the grant application, go to http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1164>and click on the link for instructions to review the preliminary application. The grant application is being submitted to pay for a collaboration with the CSU, Chico Research Foundation to provide the services of the students of the Recreation Management and Construction Management programs so we may better coordinate many of the programs that have made FOTHL so successful. Our important resources management work needs to continue or we risk losing valuable OHV recreation lands to closure. The grant request also provides for the 1/2-time hiring of an Executive Director. Given the years of lack of management of the area along with the scope of the current resuscitation work necessary to be able maintain and advance our programs in the High Lakes, this position requires more time and expertise than is available on a purely volunteer basis.
